Ratings and reviews

Farout has a horrendous user interface and is full of bugs, but people use it because in most cases it is the only app that shows specific information for long distance trails. Farout seems much more interested in churning out new trails to sell than make an app that works well for their users. They should focus on the app for a while and not new trails. I can't write a full description of all the problems with this app due to space limits.

Great tool for the AT. Haven't used it for anything else. I wouldn't say that it has more information than AWOL's guide, but it has different information. I've noticed it has better info on 'unoffical' tent sites and has some different numbers for shuttles. It also has pictures of most things you'll pass. I use AWOL for the town guides and easier route planning.

Borderline critical for daily hiking and planning drops/ zeros/ meetups/ milage on the AT. Great in airplane mode, and to determine pace on unknown terrain. It's great for planning how much water to carry, so I'm not walking up to a water source with 2L that I just carried uphill. I still carry the AWOL paper guide as a backup, but this app is SWEET!!!
