Pretty decent app. Has a nice selection of topics for vocab and I love that there is audio. No writing function from what I've seen but that's no deal breaker for someone focusing primarily on their speaking skills. Edit: I've only just started using the app. After I use it for a while longer, I can update my review. Edit 2: This app is the only one I return to every time I fall off the wagon, if not the very first one I return to. Relevant vocab and decently paced in the free version.

Pros: app is super approachable, even for pictographic languages (japanese), uses sight, and sounds to build recognition, as well as matching and spelling to encourage recall. Cons: reminds me every 5 minutes to pay money for more features, some words are poorly translated, misplaced by topic, broken sound files, minor clipping issues. only teaches vocabulary Overall: while decent for vocabulary, this app will not teach you a language. despite this, it can be a helpful study tool

Hi William, Thanks for giving a try to Drops! We built the app mainly to encourage users to learn a wide variety of words in a foreign language. We believe, Drops is a great complementary tool as it provides a building block for learners to enhance their vocabulary. Is there anything else you think we should improve on?

This app is the one I'd recommend for learning vocab. They connect the Japanese words with pictures instead of translations, making it easier to integrate into Japanese speech, and the way words are drilled helps them to stick. I like the categorization of topics, although I'd like to suggest another category: frequency lists. Having words grouped together by how often they are used in that language is one of the most efficient ways of learning vocabulary for a foreign language and I would really like that addition to be made in this app.
