About this app

Ever wondered how fit you are (but didn't know who to ask)? This app can help.

This app provides both the original Luc Leger's protocol (1984) as well as the most popular "at-least-60-seconds" alternative.

All you need is
- a pair of running shoes
- a flat 20 meter running pitch
- a modicum of enthusiasm
- this app

Note: Just in case you are wondering, this is NOT a GPS-enabled app; rather, it's a timer app that let's you easily conduct the beep test.

Simple, non-intrusive and highly accurate. No ads, no tracking, no special permissions. It
- prompts you with beeps (or ringtones that you select)
- displays seconds to beep
- displays seconds to next level
- displays distance covered so far (incl. shuttles) and time elapsed
- allows for a 15m or 20m lap
- offers an autostop feature

When you are done, the app will estimate
- VO2_Max
- calorie consumption

... that will
- give you bragging rights (hopefully)
- allow you to compare your fitness to that of the general population
- allow you to chart your progress

Caution : Some side effects have been noticed
- Runner's high. You will find yourself smiling far too much
- Fitter. Regularly done, you will be able to 'run up those stairs'
- Leaner. Darn, gotta buy smaller jeans!

Want more? Want to express appreciation? Get the pro version, which offers:
- Sophisticated group and advanced individual testing options
- Graphical analyses
- Save, export results
- Level & Shuttle voice cues
- And more

This app worked wonderfully until a few months ago. Now it will randomly not beep when a new shuttle begins, defeating the whole purpose of the app. It has become less reliable and has me searching for an alternative.

Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, this real-time app is at the mercy of other activity on your device. Force-stopping constantly active apps -- usually Meta -- may help. You could also try Airplane mode. Or, even better, run it on that unused older device after cleaning it of apps (through a factory reset).

Doesn't have proper Volume settings to make it louder than music playing on apps. Edit , but no matter what ring tone I change it to , it still isn't loud enough because the core issue is that you can't adjust the volume of the app itself. Changing the ring tone is not a valid work around. Happy run your brain and add an in-app volume setting that works with other apps

True, but you have the option to use a louder ringtone of your choosing (see Settings). Also, you can hold your phone while running -- not only will you be able to hear beeps better but you can also use the "Auto Stop" feature. Happy running.

the Australian one is much better where it tells you level 1.1 level 1.2 and not just beep beep beep. I'll stick with the free YouTube version and have one less app on my phone

You are probably aware that the app does call out the level whenever it changes. I'm not sure calling out lap details (1.1, 1.2) is a significant benefit (unless you memorize the number of laps each level has). Having said that, the Pro version does provide that feature... among a ton of others. The important thing: keep running.
