Reading an email on a white screen in the sun. A recipe that dims halfway through. Maps at night, far brighter than the road needs. Every one of them wants a different screen brightness, and right now you set every one of them by hand.

AppBright does it for you. Choose a brightness once for an app. When that app comes to the front, AppBright applies it. When you leave, your previous brightness comes back — and so does your auto-brightness setting, exactly as you had it.

Reading app at 15%. Maps at 100%. Video at 80%. Set once, then forget it.


IT SHOWS YOU THAT IT WORKS

Apps like this fail quietly. A permission gets revoked, a manufacturer scales brightness its own way, and nothing happens — with no way to tell whether the fault is the app, the phone or the setting.

AppBright has a Diagnostics screen for exactly that. It tells you which accesses are granted, what the rule engine is doing right now, whether the screen is being held on, and whether a setting is still waiting to be restored. It can run a brightness self-test that applies a value, reads it back and puts your setting straight back.

If AppBright cannot do something, it says so on the screen instead of doing nothing.

WHY IT ASKS FOR TWO PERMISSIONS

Usage access — to tell which app is on screen. AppBright reads only the name of the app in front, only while monitoring is running, and keeps no history of it.

Modify system settings — to change the brightness and to put your previous setting back. It writes the screen brightness and the auto-brightness mode, and nothing else.

Both are explained in the app before you are asked, and you can withdraw either at any time. Without them your rules are still saved; nothing is applied until you grant them.


WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO

It does not manage volume, Do Not Disturb, rotation or refresh rate. It does not lock your brightness or fight you when you move the slider yourself. It does not start watching on its own after a reboot - you start it.
