I love the idea of self-hosting the backing up of my phone's gallery, but this app has been a nightmare to set up. Upon setup, the app hangs constantly. It is unusable and often leads to crashes. When it does work, it is very choppy and often just sits there not giving me any indication that it is doing anything. It also irks me that there is no way to 'force' the backup. I have it to run on foreground and background, but it never seems to backup while in the app; it begins backing up randomly.

Excellent. Interface is very similar to that other application you're already familiar with. Setup on the server was a little tricky but more tutorials are becoming available online. It was easy to migrate using immich go and takeout. Frequent updates and feature improvements. I'll be paying soon just to support the team and their efforts

I decided to try Immich because Google photos was becoming too expensive for me. Even without all of the editing tools, the interface is very similar. Setting up the server is not a small task, but once it's up and running, the app works great for backup and viewing your image and video assets. I had an issue with delete not working, but found it was a permissions problem on the server, not the app itself. Can't wait to see what else the dev team has in mind to keep enhancing it.
