Rift is a privacy oriented chat and voice platform for adults. One place for communities, DMs, voice, and personal tools - not an app you open once and forget.

What you get
• Shards: your communities, with text, voice, forums, galleries, tickets, polls, and more built in
• Portals: music, weather, calendar, feeds, and other tools right next to your chat
• The Rift Lobby: step into ephemeral rooms, match on interests, shuffle when you want
• End-to-end encrypted DMs (Signal Protocol). We cannot read them.
• Real deletion: purged, not soft-deleted
• Native moderation and other tools - no "invite a bot"

Signup is a username and a password.
Email?Phone?ID? Nah.
Your Rift Key recovers your account and roots your encryption.

Privacy:
Subscriptions only. No: ads, data sales, behavioral profiling, AI training.

Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. Shard (community) messages are encrypted at rest.

Who it's for
Adults 18+ only. Think lounge, not an adult-content site. The age gate is so we never have to collect email, phone, or ID from everyone and users can enjoy a mature environment.

Free to join and use. Paid tiers expand storage and space - they don't unlock the core experience.

Rift is absolutely incredible. In a time where everyone is trying to steal and sell your data, Rift comes in and brings back a sense of safety with it all. You don't need an email to sign up. Just a user name and password. You're issues some keys in order to recover your account if you forget your password but there are also options to recover it from another device. E2EE on DMs, Amazing UI, fantastic audio quality, and a really responsive small dev team. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Better than Discord in every measurable way. Features that Discord charges for are available for free, and most things that require bots on Discord are built in and work better here. Way more features, and things we've been asking from Discord for years. So much easier to manage communities. Still has some bugs here and there, but the team is releasing updates daily. Pricing-model could be better for small communities, but I've seen them talk about improving on that.

Probably the best alternative to discord. Doesn't spam you with internal popups like discord nowadays. Fun cosmetics like rain, a cat that runs around your UI in desktop, etc. Favorite part is that video embeds from links actually play and look good.
