Pear Notes is a private, offline-first notepad that keeps your notes, recordings and scanned documents on your own devices. Everything is encrypted locally, and your devices sync directly with each other over a peer-to-peer connection — there is no cloud account and no server holding your data.

ON-DEVICE AI, NOTHING UPLOADED
Every AI feature is optional and runs entirely on your phone. Each downloads its model once, then works offline.
- Voice typing: speak and your words appear in the note as you talk.
- Transcribe recordings: turn a voice memo into text.
- Extract text: copy text out of photos, scans and PDFs.
- Describe images: get a caption for a photo.
- Ask, write and summarize: ask a question about a note, summarize it, list key points, suggest a title, or fix, shorten and rewrite selected text.
- Translate: 48 languages to and from English, downloaded on demand.
No account, no API key, no usage limits, and no text ever sent to a server.

SERVERLESS MULTI-DEVICE SYNC
Pear Notes links your devices directly, with no cloud coordinator. The decentralised sync engine merges changes on-device, so your library stays private.

SAFE BLIND PAIRING
Pair a new device by scanning a QR code and confirming the identity keys shown on both screens. Passive network observers cannot trace your device identity, and invites expire on their own.

LOCKED NOTES
Lock a note behind your fingerprint, face or a password you choose. Locked notes stay locked on every paired device, and are hidden from screenshots and the recent-apps screen.

ENCRYPTED MEDIA VAULT
Voice notes, document scans, photos and files are stored in an encrypted local vault. A secure local streaming server loads attachments on the fly, so nothing is left lying around unencrypted.

PASSWORD-PROTECTED BACKUPS
Export your data as an AES-256-GCM encrypted .pnbk archive, sealed with a password you choose. The password is never stored or transmitted, and there is no reset — only you can unlock it.

PERMISSIONS REQUESTED
- RECORD_AUDIO: voice notes and voice typing. Audio is processed on this device.
- CAMERA: scanning documents, taking photos, and scanning device-link QR codes.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: progress notifications for background sync and backups.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC: keeps peer-to-peer sync and encrypted backups running while the app is in the background.
