About this app

Know your window.

BaleCast watches the weather over your fields and tells you when a hay or haylage window opens — with enough notice to plan the cut, the kit and the contractor.

THE PROBLEM EVERY HAY MAKER KNOWS

Hay needs three to five good drying days in a row; haylage one or two. Miss the window and the crop is rained on, ruined or downgraded — worth hundreds or thousands of pounds a cut. So you check three weather apps every morning from May to September, and they still disagree.

HOW BALECAST WORKS

• Pin your farm. One map tap. Every farm gets its own forecasts — not the nearest town's.
• We watch, so you don't. Every 3 hours BaleCast blends independent forecast models (UK Met Office and European ECMWF) and runs proper drying arithmetic: sun, wind, humidity and rain — not just "chance of showers".
• You get told. When a workable window forms, shifts or falls through, you get a push notification or email — with plain-English reasons, and quiet hours so nothing buzzes at midnight.

HONEST BY DESIGN

Forecast models disagree, so BaleCast takes the cautious view: when they differ on rain, we believe the wetter one. Windows are labelled Watch, Likely or Confirmed, so you always know how solid the signal is — and no alert goes out unless it is worth acting on. We would rather miss a maybe than cry wolf.

YOUR SEASON, RECORDED

• Log cuts, turning, baling and outcomes field by field
• Keep moisture readings and soil tests alongside
• Season history builds a year-on-year record of what you made and when
• Link a weather station to see readings from your own yard next to the forecast

BUILT FOR UK FORAGE

Made for smallholders, livestock farms and contractors making hay and haylage across the UK. Includes a plain-English field guide to drying, moisture targets and window reading. Free while in early access — no card, no ads, just your email and a map pin.

A note on trust: weather forecasts are inherently uncertain. BaleCast's windows and alerts are guidance to inform your judgement, not a promise of dry weather. The decisions — and the local knowledge — stay yours.
