About this app

Signal is a digital watch face built around sculpted artwork: a wide bowl at the top for the date and the time, a narrow waist through the middle, and three rounded wedges below for your readings and the weather.

Weather needs one permission, once. Wear OS does not grant watch faces location access by default, so until you allow it the weather area reads "Enable Location" instead of a temperature: Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager > Location > Watch faces > Allow while using the app. Everything else on the face - time, date and the four complications - works the moment you install it.

FIVE ILLUSTRATED THEMES

- Nebula, the default: blue and violet starfields with luminous cosmic curves
- Aurora Glass: translucent cyan and violet glass
- Biomech: sculpted silver over dark green organic panels
- Relic: gold and bronze engraving on dark stone
- Liquid Alloy: brushed silver sculpture with small amber lights

Each theme is its own piece of art with its own layout, and each carries a matching set of weather icons, so the sun, the cloud and the rain always belong to the dial they sit on.

THE TIME, THE DATE, THE WEATHER

The time is set large in a heavy instrument typeface, with the weekday and the day of the month above it. Choose 24 hour or 12 hour in Customize; in 12 hour, AM or PM is written under the figures. Below the waist, the current weather is shown as an icon with the temperature beside it, in C or F following your watch's own unit.

FOUR COMPLICATIONS AND TWO APP SHORTCUTS

Press and hold the dial, open Customize, and point each complication wherever you want it. Out of the box they show:
- battery, in the upper left
- unread notification count, in the upper right
- step count, in the lower left
- heart rate, in the lower right

The two lower complications and the battery complication take a short text or a ranged value, shown as a number with its icon, or an app icon. The notification complication takes short or long text, long text over two lines, or an icon. None of them draws a progress arc. Every one of the four can be reassigned.

Along the left and right edges sit two app shortcut slots. They take an app's icon, and a tap opens that app. They start empty, and an empty shortcut slot draws nothing - the artwork stays clear.

A SECONDS SIGNAL YOU CONTROL

Seconds are off by default, so the dial stays calm. Turn them on as a thin ring that fills around the rim through the minute, or as a small tick that travels round the edge. The seconds colour is chosen on its own, from six: ice, mint, amber, lilac, white and coral.

TEXT COLOUR

Each theme ships with reading colours tuned to its artwork. Keep those, or set every reading to one of six colours: ice, mint, amber, lilac, white or coral.

ALWAYS-ON

The always-on screen removes the artwork, the complications and the seconds, and keeps what you glance for: the date, the time, a small dim weather icon and the temperature, on pure black. Measured at under 5 percent of the display lit.

GOOD TO KNOW

The weekday is written in English on the dial in every language. There is no companion phone app, no account, no ads and no subscription, and the face declares no permissions of its own.

GETTING IT ONTO THE WATCH

Buy it on the phone, then open the Play Store on the watch, where it will be waiting in your library. Press and hold the current face, swipe to Signal, and tap Customize to choose the theme, the colours, the seconds, the hour format, your four complications and your two shortcuts.
