WHAT IT DOES

JewellerDesk is an offline intake record for a jewelry repair counter. It
records the condition a piece came in, before the work is agreed, and produces
the receipt the customer keeps.

An intake takes a minute with a customer standing there. Photograph the piece,
check the stones, write down what they say it is worth, and have them sign.

The intake, in the order it happens
- Customer, ticket reference and who took it in. The app does not number jobs
for you, so the envelope and the record cannot disagree
- The item as the customer describes it, and as you see it
- Every stone counted and marked secure, loose, missing or not checked. A stone
lost later stops being an argument about when
- Condition photographs at the counter, before anything is agreed. A note
written afterwards says nothing about what came in
- The declared value, in the customer's own words
- The customer signs

The record names its own gaps
- A job with no photograph, no signature or an unchecked stone says so on its
face rather than looking complete
- Status through the shop: in the shop, at the bench, ready, collected, or
returned with no work done
- Held days, so nothing sits in the safe unnoticed
- A nudge for work that is ready and still uncollected

The price
- The quoted figure is kept separately from the running total, so a divergence
is visible rather than hidden
- The receipt prints the quoted figure and the date it was agreed

The receipt
- The customer's copy, with the condition, the stones, the declared value and
the signature
- It says in its own words that the declared value is what the customer stated,
that it is not a valuation, and that the shop has not assessed, graded or
authenticated the piece
- It carries no exclusion of liability. A term of that kind would not be
enforceable against a consumer in the UK, so writing one would put an unfair
term in a document a customer signs
- Written in English. The bundled document typeface carries only Latin letters,
so a receipt in another script would print as empty boxes, and the app says so

WHO IT IS FOR
- Independent jewelers and repair counters
- Watchmakers and bench jewelers taking work in over the counter
- Anyone who holds a customer's piece and wants the condition on the record

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It does not value, grade, authenticate or identify anything: not the metal, not
the hallmark, not the stones, not the piece. A declared value is what the
customer told you and nothing more. Nothing in the app says a record is
required, because no jurisdiction found requires one. Keeping the record reduces
disagreement about the condition an item arrived in; it does not remove it, and
it does not affect anyone's legal rights.

YOUR RECORDS STAY ON YOUR DEVICE

Customers, jobs, photographs and signatures are stored on the phone. There is
no account and no sign in. Backup and restore is one file and it is not behind
the paywall, because your record of somebody else's property should not be. The
app does send crash reports and anonymous usage statistics, and the standard
tier shows ads.
