About the app:

Collabora Office for Android uses the same engine as LibreOffice for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This, combined with a new front-end based on Collabora Online, reads and saves documents similarly to LibreOffice desktop.

Collabora Engineers Skyler Grey, Tor Lillqvist, Tomaž Vajngerl, Michael Meeks, Miklos Vajna, Jan Holešovský, Mert Tümer and Rashesh Padia have been developing Android support since 2012, with the help of Google Summer of Code students Andrzej Hunt, Iain Billet and Kaishu Sahu.

It's nice to have a perfectly viable office suite on the most common and frequently used digital interface on the planet, Android, that doesn't force you to keep your documents in their cloud while reserving the right to use any data input into it to "improve their services"/legally spy on you, sell/provide that data to third parties, train AI, etc, unlike the most common alternative, Google Docs. It's not perfect, there is some minor ghosting from time to time; I blame Android.

Perfect application for viewing and editing OpenDocument formats. A good companion app with Nextcloud for editing remote documents. I took stars off because I couldn't find a fit-to-screen view like in Word or Google Docs (I'll keep looking). Also, selecting blocks of text hides the keyboard rather than opening a "right-click" menu, making it difficult to edit. Finally, I'd like to easily move documents written on my phone to my Nextcloud.

Collabora is a very fickle application. It CAN do basic editing of documents, but one spends more time fighting the app than actually getting anything done. The main source of issues is that Collabora tries to override Android's input mechanics with its own, and this leads to a lot of problems, especially in Calc when editing spreadsheets. The other annoying issue is when the "server has disconnected" message appears; this causes the app to no longer work and data can be lost.

What’s new

Hi everyone - we're back from our break and going back to our more-regular release schedule :)

In this version we've made some accessibility improvements - we hope the app might easier to use if you're using a screen reader now. We've also built this with fixes and features from Collabora Online 25.04.9.
