About this app

Have you experienced eye strain, headache, migraine or other symptoms from being exposed to flickering lights or screens? Use this app to measure which lights or screens are flickering and how much and which are flicker-free!

This app measures flickering of light that are flickering/blinking so quickly so that we cannot usually see it with our eyes. But it can still have a negative affect on us - eye strain, headaches, migraines and even epilepsy seizures are reported as consequences of flickering lights. With this app you can measure if your LED lamps, LED bulbs, fluorescent tube lights and screens are flickering and how much.

How to Use the App?
Place the phone in a position so that the camera is facing a surface, such as a white paper, an evenly colored wall or a floor, that is lighten by the light source you want to measure the flickering from. It is very important to let the phone stand still during the measurements as movement can cause the meter to measure a too high flickering value.

What is a Flickering Percentage?
The percentage flickering is the apps estimation of the difference between the maximum and minimum light output from a light source. A flickering measurement value of 25% means that the minimum light varies between 75% and 100% light output. A light that switches off completely in each cycle will have a flickering measurement of nearly 100%. A light that does not vary in light output will have a flickering measurement of nearly 0%.

How Accurate are the Measurements?
As long as the phone during measurements is standing absolutely still, without any movements and are directed towards an even surface, the accuracy seems to be within plus/minus five percentage points under normal circumstances on most devices.

The app now supports 40 different languages.

Good idea but readings vary wildly, the same lamp read 73% for a bit and the 16% for an bit, then 43% for a bit, etc. Not sure if it is a lamp with a little flicker or a lot of flicker, which is really the apps only function.

Sorry to hear that on your Honor Magic4 Lite the app does not seem to work! It is surprising as there is nothing within the app that can make different readings for the same input. If you write me an email it would be very interesting to hear what the difference in you environment between the measurements are. apps@contechity.com Thank you so much!

not accurate for lights known to flicker 90+% at 120Hz. This app reads <10% for those lights, so it is basically useless

Oh, strange that it does not work. Did you aim the camera of your device towards a surface, only illuminated by the light source you want to measure? If you can, I would appreciate if you could send me an email so that I can ask some more questions and figure out if anything is wrong with the app. Thanks a lot! apps@contechity.com

An article in Computer Active magazine recommended this app, and I'm so glad I installed it. It identified a few lamp bulbs that were flickering heavily. The one-off payment is very good value, especially as using the app has helped to identify the cause of bad eye strain I was experiencing. I am very thankful to the developers.
