How the Euchre card game works (quick overview):
In Euchre, two teams of two compete to reach the win target (10 by default). The team that calls trump (the makers) scores points by taking tricks:
• 1 point for taking 3+ tricks
• 2 points for taking all five tricks (a march)
• 4 points for a Go Alone march
If the makers don’t take three tricks, they are euchred and the defenders score 2 points.
Quickfire rules
After five cards are dealt to each player, the candidate card is turned up. Players take turns to pass or order it up, setting trump. The dealer picks up the candidate card and discards one.
If everyone passes, the candidate card is turned down and players may call a different trump suit.
The jack of trump is the right bower (highest trump) and the jack of the same colour is the left bower (second highest trump). Players must follow suit if possible; otherwise they may play any card including trump. The highest card wins the trick (or highest trump if any trump is played).
The game is won when one team reaches the win target.
