Solid Backcountry GPS app, but has some interface issues which can make it less user-friendly and intuitive. Some of the terminology used is unclear, and some functions are either in odd places, limited, or non-existent. The most annoying is that you can't move a waypoint once you have placed it, and you have to go to the waypoint list to edit or delete it. Creating and changing trip databases (filing information for a specific trip) is not obvious enough or close enough to the surface. There is no real sharing option, just an import/export that saves the file to your phone, that then you have to go find and attach to an Email or something to get to a computer or cloud storage. If you want something to share your trip info with others this is not set up to do that easily.
At least for hunting purposes knowing the year is more important than the day and month. Having a field that would show the date metadata would even be better than having it in the name field. You can tell there is not any hunters in the design team. Still the best program out there there.
Thank you devs for pointing out that the map magnification is still available and has just been moved from within the settings to the main view. Only thing I would point out is that the symbol is a spy glass and I just assumed it was a new search button as most apps use this symbol for search buttons. UPDATE: After a recent update we seem to have lost 'Map Magnification' in the settings which used to help with different resolution screens. Now, when I view British OS maps the detail is too small on screen at the point when the map changes from 1:50 000 (Landranger map) to 1:25 000 (Explorer map). Please bring this feature back. If it is still available in the app, please point me in the right direction as I cannot find it in the settings. OLD REVIEW: I have used this app for years for walking and rambling in the UK and also whenever I go abroad. Can't live without it, keep up the good work.
Brilliant! I'd like to pitch my $800 Android Garmin Monterro in the river. Other than the robust hardware of the Garmin, this app does so much more than the crappy 1990s era Garmin software. And I can trash about 6 cheap tablets in the field and still be ahead. The demo was almost enough but for 16 bucks, the functionality of Pro is priceless. I love the audio waypoint feature...no keyboarding with dirty hands or in foul weather. It's time for Garmin to fade away to auto GPS toys.
Absolute best map app for finding backcountry roads and trails
I really love this app and it's been perfect for getting me to and fro anywhere while backpacking and in airplane mode. The tutorial is nice. I feel like it could use a little user interface design love though. It's not very intuitive at first at all. Once set it is very user friendly but getting it set up is challenging at first. Thanks for making this!
