Metronome keeps time for practice and rehearsal, and keeps your songs in order
so you are not re-dialling a tempo between them.
WHY IT DOES NOT DRIFT
Most phone metronomes schedule each click against the system clock: wake up,
play a sound, go back to sleep. Every one of those hops costs a little time, the
cost varies, and the error only ever adds up. It is inaudible for four beats and
obvious after two minutes, which is exactly the wrong way round for something
you practise against.
This one writes the clicks into the audio itself, at exact sample positions. The
hardware plays that audio at a fixed rate, so the beats arrive where they were
written. There is no clock in the loop and nothing to fall behind.
SETLISTS
Save a song with its tempo, its time signature and how many bars it runs for.
Put the songs in the order you play them. Then run the list: the tempo changes
between songs on its own, and you keep your hands on the instrument.
WHAT IT DOES
• 20 to 400 beats per minute, by tap, slider or a single beat at a time
• Time signatures from 2/4 to 12/8, with the accent on the beats you choose
• Tap tempo that settles quickly and ignores the tap you got wrong
• A visible beat, for practising in a loud room or with headphones off
• Setlists, reordered by hand, with the next song cued up
• Light and dark themes
• Save a copy of your setlists to a file and put it back on your next phone
WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO
• No microphone. It never listens to you, so it needs no recording permission.
A tuner is a different job and this app does not pretend to do it.
• No account, no cloud, no sign-in. Your setlists are on this phone.
• No background playing and no notification. A metronome you cannot see is one
you cannot stop, so the screen stays awake while it runs instead.
• No sampled drum kits. That is a drum machine.
PRIVACY
Your setlists are stored on this phone and nowhere else. The app has no server.
Android cloud backup is switched off for it, so nothing is copied to Google
Drive either — use Save a copy before you change phones.
The app shows ads. The only data that leaves your device is what Google AdMob
needs to show them, and it never includes anything you typed.
