Steady Note is a chromatic tuner for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin and anything else that plays one note at a time. It shows the note you play, how many cents sharp or flat it is, and a needle that holds still long enough to tune by.

★ A NEEDLE YOU CAN TUNE BY
A tuner that twitches is hard to tune by. Steady Note shows a note only once it has heard it several times in a row, shows the middle value of the last few readings, and keeps the note it has until the sound has clearly moved to another. The green band on the scale means in tune within 5 cents.

★ NEVER A GUESS
When there is no note, it shows no note. Silence, a knock, a room's hiss or people talking leave the screen empty and ask you to play a single note, rather than inventing one. When a string dies away, its last reading stays on screen for a moment, faded and marked as the last one heard.

★ LOW STRINGS READ AT THE RIGHT OCTAVE
The low strings of a bass or a guitar often sound their octave louder than the note itself, which sends many tuners an octave too high. Steady Note measures how often the wave repeats rather than which frequency is loudest, so a low E reads as a low E - even when the fundamental itself is faint.

★ INSTRUMENTS AND TUNINGS
- Chromatic: every note from the low B of a five-string bass (31 Hz) up to G6 (1568 Hz).
- Guitar: standard, drop D, half step down, DADGAD and open G.
- Bass: 4-string and 5-string.
- Ukulele: standard, low G and baritone.
- Violin, viola, cello, mandolin, and banjo in open G.
In an instrument's mode Steady Note names the nearest string. Tap a string to hold the tuner on it however far off it is - handy for one that has slipped a whole step. Each string you bring into tune gets a tick.

★ YOUR REFERENCE PITCH
Set A4 anywhere from 415 to 466 Hz: 442 or 443 for many orchestras, 415 for baroque ensembles. Every note and every string moves with it.

★ MADE TO WORK WITH TALKBACK
With a screen reader, the tuner says the note and whether it is in tune, flat or sharp, at a pace you can follow instead of a stream of numbers.

★ THE MICROPHONE, ONLY WHILE YOU TUNE
Steady Note asks for the microphone once, after saying why. It listens only while the tuner is on screen: open Settings, switch apps or press Pause, and the microphone is released. What it hears is measured in memory and gone a moment later. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent; everything happens on your phone. There is no sign-up, and it needs the internet only for ads.

★ WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
- It tunes one note at a time. A strummed chord has no single note to read, so play one string at a time.
- It plays no reference tones: a tuner listening through the microphone would hear its own speaker.
- It keeps no history of what it heard.

Ads: a full-screen ad now and then after you finish tuning and press Pause or Done - never while the tuner is listening. Watch a short video in Settings to turn ads off for a day.
