Pixels Only is an image compressor that shows you what a photo says about you before you send it - and makes copies of just the picture.
A photo from a phone usually carries more than its picture: the place it was taken, often to a few metres; the date and time to the second; the phone's make and model; sometimes a serial number, an owner's name or a unique ID that links every copy of it. Some carry a second, smaller copy of the picture, which in a cropped photo can still show what was cropped away. A motion photo can carry seconds of video with sound after the end of the image, where no viewer looks.
★ SEE WHAT EACH PHOTO SAYS
Pick photos, or share them to Pixels Only from your gallery. Each one shows its own answers: the coordinates, the time and time zone, the phone, the names and numbers, the hidden thumbnail (shown, so you can see it), the video, the editing history, and a file name that gives the date away.
★ SAME PICTURE, DETAILS REMOVED
For JPEG, PNG and WebP, the picture is copied byte for byte and only what surrounds it is removed. Which way up it goes and its colour profile are kept, because they describe the picture, not you.
★ SMALLER COPIES
Resize to a longest side of 3840, 2560, 1920, 1280, 1024 or 640 px, and compress by quality or to a size: under 2 MB, 1 MB, 500 KB, 200 KB or 100 KB. A new JPEG carries nothing but the picture.
★ IT SAYS WHAT IT DID
- Every copy is read back from the file after it is written, with the same reader that listed what the original said. A copy that is not proved clean is deleted, not saved.
- A picture is never made bigger than it is. Already inside the limit? It keeps its own size.
- A copy is never bigger than the original unless you see the two sizes and ask for it. Compressing an already small JPEG can make it bigger, and the app says so.
- If a size cannot be reached above quality 40, the app says how close it got instead of wrecking the photo.
- A picture with see-through parts, or an animation, is not quietly flattened into a JPEG.
★ WHAT IT CANNOT DO
It removes what the file says, not what the picture shows. A face, a street sign or the view from a window is still there in every copy. And when Android has blanked a photo's location before handing it over, the app tells you, rather than claiming the photo has none.
★ SAVE OR SHARE
Save the copies to a folder you choose, or share them straight to another app. Copies whose file names carried a date get plain names.
★ NO PERMISSION PROMPTS, NO UPLOADS
Pixels Only never asks you for a permission: no access to your photo library, your location or your camera. Photos come in through the system photo picker or a share, and copies go out through a folder you pick or the share sheet. Everything happens on your phone; nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and the app keeps no list of the photos it has seen. It needs the internet only for ads.
Ads: one full-screen ad now and then after you finish a batch you saved or shared, never while you work. Watch a short video in Settings to turn ads off for a day.
