With Thronefall we tried to strip a classic strategy game from all unnecessary complexity, combining it with a healthy amount of hack and slay. Build up your base during the day, defend it til your last breath at night.

Will you be able to strike the right balance between economy and defense? Do you need more archers, thicker walls or an additional mill? Will you keep the enemies at bay with your longbow or charge your horse right into them? It's going to be a tough night, but nothing beats seeing the sun rise above your little kingdom to live another day.

Editing my review after trying the "challenges" and quests, this game misses the mark on its biggest draw: Tower Defense. The challenges are just PUZZLES, not tower defense. You are forced to do them in specific ways with specific weapons and perks. That's not a tower defense, that's a puzzle game in disguise. I was right to give this a 2.5/5. It's very disappointing and kinda irritating the deeper you get into it. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for the price, maybe with Play Pass. Boring.

I really wanted to give this 5 stars, but the developers need to fix a few things. For the mobile version they need to make the Gallop feature togglable. Right now you have to hold down a small icon on the right side of the screen continuously to be able to gallop. VERY difficult to do that while using another finger of your right hand to move the character around the map. Also there is nothing telling you how much damage anything does or exactly how much health. Frustrating when making choices.

disclaimer: I got this game through Playpass. It is a really good game. the tutorial is solid, the gameplay is smooth, and it's really fun. Every level has bonus challenges that you can set (for instance, enemies have more health, etc), so the difficulty is pretty customizable. Each time you level up, you gain access to new perks you can equip to make replays or challenge runs easier. Overall, a well balanced game that is exactly what it advertises (a true novelty nowadays). Highly recommend
