Why oh why change an aesthetically pleasing and easy to read layout to this new one? It's hard on the eye, deeply unpleasant and appears to have been designed by someone with no design ability or understanding of aesthetics. Did you actually do proper research into how this would be received? The 'new & improved' Coca Cola recipe fiasco springs to mind. Why break what doesn't need fixing?
From 5 stars to 1. I tried to stay open minded as change is part of life. But this app redesign doesn't work. The new colours simply ruin it (and I'm known for liking my bold and my garish). The old colours and font worked so well. It used to be one of the nicest looking apps and pleasure to read. No more.
Not at all sure about the new black and orange look for Opinion! The new design on the app does not allow the comments to be seen as they're written. Other comment writers saying the same thing. The date and time stamp for each article, was very useful, more so than horizontal lines. Please reinstate the date/time for articles.
The Guardian is an excellent source of news and I find its reporting a cut above the rest. As for the app - a very nice redesign. It's very different so might take some getting used to but first impression for me is very good. One problem though - I can't see what I'm writing when commenting. The comments post fine but have to be edited "blind".
The new design is absolutely horrible! News coverage is good, but it is no longer a pleasure to read. I liked the previous version so much that I was happy to pay as a supporter, but now I will unsubscribe and uninstall. (Perhaps you could offer the old version to supporters who are willing to pay the fee?)
The typeface is too heavy, the billions of horizontal rules eat up screen space, and the stark black and white is headache-inducing. From design quietly serving content to design front and centre, and it doesn't work on a phone. What a shame. I've also lost all my saved articles...
Version 5.0, a brand new look for the app to coincide with the launch of the new Guardian newspaper in the tabloid format.
