Hanashi is a language learning app built around real speaking practice, not boring study. Instead of spending most of your time on flashcards, grammar drills, or reading exercises, Hanashi gets you using the language in real conversation from the beginning.

So far it is fun, but it is starting me out with characters I do not know how to read or understand. For japanese, I have a better time understanding Romaji over the lettering for Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. I know a little Japanese from watching anime for a long time. But have trouble retaining. If I can get the app to start me off with Romaji over the other to physically read I may understand better from the start. but so far its a cool app and im enjoying it.

Using for japanese. Sometimes locks mid conversation and won't let you go back or continue when that happens which is disruptive to flow of conversation. Overall when it works it's good. Occasional transcription errors in which the AI voice responds verbally with a response that appears to understand but the chat layout text transcribe it as incorrect. Vocab feature will allow you to make a list of words but there isn't flashcards.

This app is great for practicing but could use some quality improvements. Sometimes the app will get stuck and you can no longer look at definitions by highlighting characters. If you switch apps to look up a definition or something you will lose all progress in your chat and have to restart. All kanji even in the beginner section does not have any hiragana above it. When you press the help button it will give you suggestions on what to say next but no help on how to say it.
