※ Users can grant the following permissions to ensure smooth use of Kakao Navi. Each permission is divided into mandatory permissions and optional permissions, depending on its specific characteristics.

1. Required Access Permissions
1) Location: Access is required for route guidance, Honeycomb screen layout, nearby search, and widgets.
2) Storage: Access is required for map data and resource storage.
3) Phone: Access is required to mute route guidance when making a phone call while driving.
2. Optional Access Permissions
1) Microphone: Access is required for Kakao i voice recognition and dashcam audio recording. 2) Camera: Access is required for the black box function, customizing the honeycomb screen, and recognizing electric vehicle charging QR codes.
3) Display on top of other apps: Access is required for using the route guidance widget.
4) Address Book: Access is required for making calls using voice recognition.
5) Physical Activity: Access is required to improve location and route accuracy.
6) Nearby Devices: Access is required for indoor parking lot map guidance.

※ You can still use the service even if you do not consent to optional access permissions.

※ Kakao Navi access permissions are divided into required and optional permissions for Android OS 6.0 and higher.
If you are using an OS version lower than 6.0, you cannot grant optional permissions as needed. Therefore, we recommend checking with your device manufacturer to see if they offer an OS upgrade feature. If possible, we recommend updating to OS 6.0 or higher. Furthermore, access permissions agreed to in existing apps will not change even after an OS update. To reset access permissions, you must delete and reinstall existing apps.

6/23 edit: I wish I could rate this lower than 1 star. My original review was for 2019 and the app still has issues with Android Auto. Within 2 weeks of use, I had to relogin in my phone (not possible while using Auto) to continue using the app. There's no way to default to map view (it always requires you click safe driving mode or input a destination). It's just bad. But the worst part, it's REQUIRED to run Android Auto. Even if I use a better map app, I can't uninstall this one. -5 stars

The user interface is only in Korean so it's really hard to make it work or search anything, and useless as the indications are in Korean. A bit shocking knowing that the government doesn't allow Google Maps and their apps don't support English... The application also asks for almost every possible permission and it won't start if you don't allow ALL of them. This includes: activity/health stats, phone, mic, contacts. It shows ads. You must have a Kakao account (good luck creating an account).

edit: Most issues have been fixed. Highway mode works better and warning messages can now be disabled. Unfortunately still no option to change map language. My phone's language is English but I need the maps to be in Korean. Also the app starts in Seoul even though I live in Busan, making it impossible to search for nearby locations.
