About this app

HeosStream

The application HeosStream provides the possibillity, to play Stream URLs" on the Denon AVR with the help of the HEOS protocol. This is done without the help of services from other providers (see Standard HEOS application).

Most Radiostations publish their streaming URL (sometimes called Live URL) on their Webpage. These URLs can be transfered to HeosStream via the "Share" function of the Browser.

Stream URLs are provided to HeosStream as M3U Playlist-Files. Many URLs can be written into one file. This could be accomplished with any texteditor. This files must be stored into the working directory, which was choosen during the first start of the application or by the Option-Menu (3 dots).

They have to follow the Standard Format "M3U" and should be named like this: "[filename].m3u"

Example:

#EXTM3U

#EXTINF:-1,NDR 90,3

http://www.ndr.de/resources/metadaten/audio/m3u/ndr903.m3u

#EXTINF:-1,N-JOY

http://www.ndr.de/resources/metadaten/audio/m3u/n-joy.m3u

If a file is opened and a station is chosen it will be added to the actual playlist.

Into this playlist stations and names can be entered directly. Also changes could be made in the Edit-Mode. During the Edit-Mode a LongClick onto this button leads to a test of the actual playlist.

Another possibilty to add stations to the playlist is the access to the community project "Radio-Browser" (> 30.000 stations ). For example the application "RadioDroid 2" from the playstore could be used to send streams to an external player (in our case HeosStream)

From this playlist a single station can be selected. The application will call the HEOS Interface and hand over the Station URL to the Denon AVR. The playback of the stream takes place independently from the HeosStream application. That means you can close now the application because the playback in the Denon AVR is not bound to your mobile.

But the AVR does not show the information about titles and artists. Only the term URL Stream will be shown. In the HeosStream application these fields are shown on the screen "PLAYINFO", when these information is available in the stream.

Test Environment

The application HeosStream was tested with the Denon AVR-X2600H. But it should work with all AVRs with build-in-HEOS, which follow the API specifications as noted below.

The access to the AVR is based on the API specifications in

Working for me, took a bit of time creating m3u playlist using a text editor and loading as described in the help file. I can now again play streams I like on my Denon AVR - thanks. Works well from my phone, seems to add played stations to the playlist window - same station gets listed many times, but it works and early days hopefully.

In contrary to the native HEOS app it works! I couldn't get the native app working because I have two different local networks and the app has only device auto search on current network. Anyway this app lacks many basic features (like dialog for selecting external playlists etc.).

Thank you for your positive review. You can select external playlists (m3u format) if you store those in the working directory of the application.

Was looking for a way to stream custom URLs on Denon long ago. This is the only way I know of to get HQ streams that or not available on TuneIn! Thanks a lot for this!
