Learn Morse Code from scratch, or sharpen your CW copying and sending. Beginners can start with step-by-step listening lessons. Experienced operators can go straight to character groups, words and callsigns at higher speeds, and refine their sending with timing feedback.
OpenShack Morse Code Trainer brings beginner lessons and advanced practice together in one app for your phone or tablet. No radio or extra hardware is needed to begin. The app interface is in English.
START SMALL. BUILD YOUR SKILLS.
Begin in Learn Morse Code with a small set of characters. Listen to their sounds, type what you hear and add new characters as your accuracy improves. These are Koch lessons: you learn the sound of each character through practice, rather than trying to memorise a whole chart at once. Revisit earlier lessons whenever you want.
GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO LISTEN
Choose a speed that suits you. Need a little longer to recognise each character? Add more space between characters while keeping their individual sounds at your chosen speed. This is called Farnsworth spacing, and you can reduce it as you become more confident.
SEE WHAT TO PRACTISE NEXT
Review your accuracy and the characters that need more attention. Your lessons, settings and progress stay on your device, ready for your next session.
KEEP GOING AS YOU IMPROVE
Already comfortable with CW? Go straight to Advanced Practice for characters, groups, words and amateur-radio callsigns. Work on speed and accuracy without completing beginner lessons first, or return to them whenever you want. The two modes keep separate profiles, so advanced practice does not overwrite your lesson progress.
TRY SENDING, TOO
Use the on-screen paddle to practise sending CW, with timing feedback for your short and long elements and the spaces between them. You can also connect your own paddle through an optional OpenShack Box when you want physical controls.
MAKE PRACTICE PART OF YOUR DAY
Practise offline on your phone or tablet. Adjust the tone, volume and session settings to suit you. No ads, no subscription and no account required: one app purchase includes both trainer modes.
Keep a copy of your progress with profile export and import, including compatible OpenShack desktop trainer profiles. The About screen links to the manual and further help. Training results are not posted to public leaderboards.
The OpenShack Box is optional and sold separately; you do not need one for listening or on-screen sending practice. USB connection requires USB host support and a suitable cable or adapter. Network Box connections and website links require internet access.
From your first characters to faster copying and cleaner sending: make your next practice session count.
