About this app

In the digital age, an increasing number of educational resources are available in the universal EPUB-3 format. These resources benefit from the interactivity enabled by JavaScript. However, this interactivity is currently primarily available in EPUB readers on desktop computers. Several EPUB readers exist for Android, but most offer limited JavaScript support. The Books reader offers extensive JavaScript support on Apple devices.

The Pubbr EPUB reader was developed with the specific goal of supporting a wide range of JavaScript features to make educational resources accessible on Android. Its user interface is intentionally clean and minimalist, offering keyword search, bookmarks, themes, and font size adjustment. By design, the app does not include a reading library feature; therefore, opening a new document erases all personalized information related to the previous document.

Pubbr registers as an EPUB reader on Android, allowing you to open .epub files directly from the file manager. Once the application is launched, you can also long-press on the title bar to open a file on your device.

Pubbr includes a Demo.epub file that demonstrates some of its JavaScript features. Opening external links is disabled by design, for security reasons. The contents of this demo file are publicly accessible on the Pubbr GitHub repository (github.com/lavrentius-dev/pubbr).

Pubbr is a completely free and ad-free app.
