Relai was founded in Zurich in 2020 with a simple goal: make Bitcoin easy to access without giving up control. The app is intentionally clean and straightforward - for people who want to buy and self-custody Bitcoin without detours or distractions.

Relai operates within robust regulatory frameworks in both the European Union and Switzerland. Relai EU is registered as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under the EU's MiCA regulation with the French financial regulator AMF. In Switzerland, Relai AG is a member of the self-regulatory organisation VQF.

Ratings and reviews

Works great but only 4 stars because of the intransparent fees. There is 0.9% and up to 1% spread, so you pay 1.9% in total.. However it is advertised as only 0.9% (1% if you don't use a ref code). Another negative point is that they reuse your address, so you always stack to the same address which is terrible for your privacy. Edit: I downgraded to 2 stars. The address reuse is too much..

The app fails at the most basic stage: registration. Despite following all troubleshooting steps, I was unable to create an account. If a financial application cannot perform reliably on a high-end device like the S23 Ultra, I simply do not have the confidence to entrust it with my money. Technical stability is a baseline requirement for any investment platform. Currently unusable.

Despite trying payments with several methods (standard debit card, Wise card, Google pay), the app tells me that the bank has declined the transaction, when I'm 100% sure that they didn't as I called them both. In result, because of the repeated attempts Relai puts a 48h block due to no fault of my own. For a financial app, the support is EXTREMELY slow - when they reply after a day and you answer them immediately, they leave you again and you have to wait for god knows how many more hours.
