About this app

Antar is a private journal where you explore your thoughts as a conversation.

Create personas for different sides of yourself, such as the planner, critic, dreamer, or any voice you recognize, then switch between them as you write. Instead of forcing everything into one paragraph, let conflicting ideas speak, respond, and see different perspectives more clearly.

CREATE YOUR PERSONAS
Give each perspective a name, color, and identity. Let the planner talk to the procrastinator or the critic answer the dreamer. Seeing those perspectives together can help you notice patterns in how you think.

FOLLOW EVERY TANGENT
Branch any message into a separate thread, explore the idea, and trace your way back. Add voice notes when writing feels too slow or images when words are not enough.

SEE YOUR THOUGHTS DIFFERENTLY
Explore interactive visualizations that help you see and work with your inner dialogue:
• Living Tree: Watch a conversation grow through its branches.
• Inner Council: Arrange your personas and explore how their voices relate.
• Decision Board: Compare opposing viewpoints and capture a conclusion.

WRITE IT, THEN LET IT GO
Not every thought needs to become a permanent entry. Release passing stress or worries through rituals such as Wind, Breathe Away, Incinerate, and Drop It. Breathe Away processes microphone input on-device and never records it.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No Antar account is required.
• Journal content is stored on your device unless you explicitly use Google Drive backup or the optional AI Facilitator.
• Protect the app with your device unlock or an app PIN.
• Create manual local or Google Drive backups, with optional AES-256-GCM encryption.

OPTIONAL AI FACILITATOR
Ask for a gentle question when a dialogue stalls, or request a short reflection based on your own words. The Facilitator never speaks as one of your personas.

AI assistance is off until you choose to use it. After your consent, only a limited portion of the current session is sent to the AI service. Your other sessions are never sent.

Ratings and reviews

Almost perfect! Doing parts work for therapy, writing the ultimate pro/con list, worldbuilding, or just meet 3 other folks in your head who won't talk directly to you? This might be your app. The only reasons that I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 could be very easy fixes. 1. I'd love a way to port my data. my old phone is on its last legs, and I don't want to lose years of work. 2. If I dictate for 10 minutes, then check the web & come back, it's all gone unless I send & edit. V annoying.

EDIT: i've bumped it back up to 5 stars because i'm glad to learn that the devs reversed some of the decisions they made the last time i had checked the app. shows that they do care :) i recommend you guys update the app description, because it still says the free plan has a 5 persona limit and no image avatars allowed, which doesn't seem to be the case anymore. those were the main problems that made me stop using it, and i didn't even realize they had changed it back.

I loved this app, but then you took away features (like tagging) and started charging to get them back. And this isn't clearly communicated in the app until you try to use the feature, and there was no notice of this happening. It's like buying a car, and being told after the fact that you have to pay to unlock the steering wheel. Just a really bad user experience and communication all around.

What’s new

Breathe Away — a new ritual in Let It Go. Write a thought, breathe gently toward your phone, and watch it dissolve. Audio is processed live, never recorded.

Backups now live in durable storage, so they survive uninstalling the app. Backup settings show live status, and restore screens support dark mode.

Persona and tag search are now free for everyone.

Fixes: Inner Map and Council arcs are easier to tap, and Let It Go scenery stays put with the keyboard open.
