Edit: Ugh, the more I use it the more I hate it. Will be uninstalling. What the hell happened to it? Why have you ruined a perfectly good app? Before the latest update I would have rated it 5 stars but I hate it now, not even worth the 1 star I was forced to rate it. The previous version was much better. I do not like this one AT ALL. Horrible layout, horrible colours, can't see who is online and offline, slow... the list is endless. For the love of god, please change it back. Why everything seems to feel the need to mimic Snapchat is beyond me, if I wanted that I would download Snapchat. The people responsible for this garbage should hang their heads in shame.
Revert to old UI right now! It was different than many others but it was Skype and it was efficient. This new one is a disaster! Bigly! Who is online? Where are settings? Waste of screen real estate! I use(d) Skype for calling people and sending them files of different types, not only pictures. Usually if I document stuff I do it with my standard camera app since it syncs to Google Drive and I am used to it and if I need to send I simply Share it to Skype. That's it. Would never use capture. Old review: Works fine but battery consumption doubled with app started and logged in, no activity going on. Bad for such an app. HTC Desire.
The previous versions are excellent. However this new reworked version is laggy, drains the battery & over loaded with useless add-ons. It's a mobile app. It's supposed to have light features. Sending specific pics is a great hassle "if possible" & sharing files is even more complicated. This latest version is laggy on my Samsung s6 & s7. Has nothing to do with being user friendly , & i don't think it's the kind that gets fixed by an update. Thank you Skype for messing up a great mobile app. I thought i was the only one dissatisfied with Skype until i read the comments from other users of the latest version. In a nutshell, the user interface was much much better & consumed much less battery. I can see on my phone it's consuming triple what it used to "wish i could add the screenshots.
The new UI introduced in the June 2017 update is a step down from the old. My calls randomly get placed on hold and I've yet to decipher what all triggers it. I know playing videos does, which is annoying. I'd like to be able to decide when my calls get out on hold. The only Skype allowed me to be on a call whether I was playing a YouTube video or not. Also, integrated browsers are so annoying. Who likes them? Does anybody? Microsoft, if you don't scrap this update, Skype will go the way of ICQ and AIM. Furthermore, I scrolled through countless recent reviews, since this update. There are very few good ones. Still, if you can add an option to disable the "putting calls on hold automatically" feature, I would be grateful. Edit: After publishing this review, Skype seems to have resolved the issue with calls being randomly put on hold. The new UI is still clunky, but I upgraded to 3 stars in light of the fix.
Worst UI I have ever seen. Notifications DO NOT work. Funny, that you guys updated UI but left screenshots unchanged. If there was 0 star you would have gotten it with no hesitation. UPDATE: Looks like developers don't take into account about 1 million one-star rating (out of about 7 million total). Well done, guys. Keep making one of the best apps garbage. My rating is "MINUS 5 stars" (I wish I had such an option)
I've had all Skype features for about 10 years including the phone number. Here is what I think: not having a voice greeting is a main feature that tanks it's use for me. Before I could use it as my top phone. Not now. Moving to Google for that! It has also gotten convoluted. Hard to get to features on web and on app. Seems to be more interested in looking cool than helping you use the features. I will keep it but I'm not in love with it anymore. I use it for specific things. It isnt my go-to anymore. Works well when i use if I can reach the person. If Skype wanted me to do more with it, it would give me back my voice greeting and make it easier to find the simple call button!
