Ratings and reviews

I used to rely very heavily on this app while travelling around the world. But now it seems they've turned it into a wanna-be Facebook that's travel themed. When I type a location into the search bar all I get is a cluttered "newsfeed" of blogs and advertisements for hotels I'm not interested in. There's no "things to do" or "places to eat/drink" ect search options anymore to see large lists of neatly displayed and rated activities in the area you want to research. Dissapointing.

I always use Trip Advisor for restaurant selections and try to provide as many reviews as I can. This app is very handy for both, although I find the map and filter functions a bit clunky. The map view is my preferred interface since it provides context to my location. After selecting a city or 'nearby' it is important to click 'search this area' everytime you move the map or zoom in. The more you zoom the more detail the map brings up. However it frustratingly doesn't bring up everything.

The app is very helpful but if you ever make a typo in a search be prepared to be flooded with emails about somewhere you do not want to go because it is impossible to clear your search history. Do not use it if you are trying to suprise someone for the same reason. We went to Victoria and I used TripAdvisor to research it, still getting emails 9 months after my trip. It would be great to be able to tell TripAdvisor that you are no longer interested in a destination but there is no way to it
