About this app

Newly released: Walk the distance of the Triple Crown! (AT, PCT, CDT)

Use your daily walking/running distance recorded from Google Fit, Fitbit or Garmin app to complete the distance of really long (and some short) trails. See other users completing the same route, and don't let them pass you!

Current Trails include:
- Appalachian Trail
- Pacific Crest Trail
- Continental Divide Trail
- John Muir Trail
- Camino de Santiago
- and many more!

No third-party device or app needed! The Health App tracks your walking automatically using the pedometer built into the iPhone. WalkTheDistance puts that data to good use; showing you how far you would be if you were walking the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail and other featured routes in cities and national parks around the world.

The Appalachian Trail is really long. So we added checkpoints along the way to help you stay motivated. For the Appalachian trail, checkpoints are shelters where you can "stay the night", along with some points that provide a good view. Checkpoints vary by walk, and of course you cannot unlock checkpoints until you reach them!

Walk with other users! Walk with everyone, or just walk with your friends. You can easily add friends to walk with you on your walk. Get notified when someone passes you. Stay motivated and don't let them beat you!

This app is "activate it and leave it". It uses virtually no power while in the background. It pulls your walking/running distance from the Google Fit app once every hour in the background, or every time you open the app. When you reach checkpoints or get passed by friends, you will get notifications on your phone letting you know.

Free walks in each category (Appalachian Trail, Marathons, Cities, National Parks), then other walks are available for purchase for $0.99 (or equivalent local currency).

Feedback welcome! This app was built based on feedback from users. There is an "email me" link under settings. We would love to hear what routes you want added and what features you'd like to see.

I've just set up the app to sync with my Garmin and that's working great. I can't get a profile photo to load, though. It repeatedly says that it successfully uploaded, but it's still blank. I would love some way to view friends' profiles and communicate within the app. I've added half a dozen friends already today and I'm looking forward to using the app and seeing it grow

EDIT: I have waited to post my new review after trying out the new Samsung integration and I have to admit that it works amazingly! Seeing my meters and kms added on each time I open the app to check my progress really does keep me motivated! Thank you so much!!

Good app to get you moving around while exploring the world. The developer is quick to respond to any issues. I recommend this app to anyone who wants to try. Unfortunately this app connects to Google Fit and Fitbit (Google owns) and your information is no longer safe. Not a developer issue. enjoy your walks...
