HOW IT WORKS

Once requested, the Waymo car will pick you up from your current location; all you have to do is hop in, sit back, and buckle up. To begin your trip, tap “Start Ride” on the in-car passenger screen where you can also see what the Waymo Driver sees and contact Rider Support at any time.

Ratings and reviews

It was ok. At first it was good, pickup went well and getting into the car was easy. A little while into the drive the car started to malfunction and kept pulling over. We called ride support and got put on the phone with two people at the same time. We finally got someone to help us, but were in a bit of a rush and so we just got out, though eventually they did get it working. Overall I would say do this more for the cool experience, but know that it is technology and sometimes it won't work.

I was really enjoying Waymo for the last year or so, but it has become very unreliable lately. When ordering during slow times, it still works fine. But the last two rides I ordered on Friday and Saturday evenings went horribly wrong, with a car never arriving and the other having its expected arrival time repeatedly pushed back. Both times left me late for events. Waymo is a fun novelty, and I have nearly 100 trips in it. But take Uber if you really need to be somewhere.

When it works, the experience is exciting and efficient. Unfortunately, it is not reliable. Wait times are prone to suddenly jump from 2 minutes to 20 minutes as you see your car reassigned and drive pass you. Cars can get held up because of something as simple as a bike chained to a corner lamppost. The reserve a car feature is useless. We reserved an hour ahead to only have the trip cancelled by Waymo after it was 2 minutes late and we were texting support.
