If you enter your date of birth, it counts how many days you have lived up to today. This is accurate because it is calculated using a calendar.
The remaining days are different. It reads the life expectancy of people of the same age and gender from the Statistics Korea life table and estimates it by adjusting it using the effect size of lifestyle studies. It displays "Estimate" on the screen.
Life Labs never displays these three types of numbers as a single block:
- Days Lived — Fact. This is the value counted from the calendar.
- Basic Life Expectancy — Population average. This is the life table published by Statistics Korea.
- Habit Adjustment — Estimation. This is a value created using the effect size of cohort studies.
Key Features
- Days Lived and the proportion of days passed
- A life calendar where each square represents a week. Weeks lived are filled in, and remaining weeks are left blank.
- Estimation of remaining days adjusted based on five items: smoking, weight, exercise, drinking, and dietary habits.
- Sleep and stress are displayed separately as supplementary indicators due to weak evidence.
- Milestones such as upcoming 10,000 and 20,000 days, and days remaining until your next birthday.
- Eight profiles, including family and pets. When you switch, all screens become the standard for that profile.
- A screen showing the source of all numbers and the basis for even the parts arbitrarily determined by the app.
We do not estimate your pet's remaining days. This is because there is no reliable domestic data available, unlike human life tables. If you set your expected lifespan yourself, it is displayed as "Manual Input"; if you do not set one, it counts only the days spent together.
What this app does not do.
Life Labs is not a medical device and does not perform diagnoses. No number tells you how long you will live. These are merely averages of the population and research, and individual results fall far outside this range. Please consult a medical professional for health decisions.
There are no servers or accounts. Your date of birth and habit answers are stored only in the app's storage on this device and are not sent anywhere else. We have not included advertisements or analytics SDKs.
There are two permissions, both optional. Turning on Milestone Notifications requires notification permissions, and turning on App Lock uses biometric authentication. Since all notifications are local notifications generated within the device, no push tokens are created. If you do not enable either feature, the app will not ask for any permissions.
I count the days I have lived, and estimate the remaining days using the Statistics Korea life table.
