About this app

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap self-guided tours in almost 500 destinations worldwide.

VoiceMap tours are like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now. They're produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour.

Why use VoiceMap?

• Explore at your own pace instead of being herded along in a group. Start and stop tours whenever you like, to grab a drink or take in the view, then tap Resume to pick up exactly where you left off.
• Focus on your surroundings, not the screen. With automatic GPS playback, you can just tap on Start and let VoiceMap guide you.
• Avoid expensive roaming fees or fiddly connection issues. After you download a tour, VoiceMap works offline and includes an offline map.
• Enjoy tours as many times as you like, both in your destination and with your feet up, at home. Virtual Playback turns every tour into a podcast or audio book.
• Extend your attention span with indoor tours that help you make the most of your time at a growing range of museums and art galleries around the world.
• With over 1,500 free and paid tours in 70 plus countries, VoiceMap offers huge variety. There are over 100 tours in London alone!

Press:
“High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.”
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

Really enjoyed this tour as well as getting lost in Charleston (literally). Had to drive most of the tour because I can't walk long distances. Even so, I was still able to navigate the tour with minimal course corrections... beware of those one way streets. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to learn a little history while getting their steps in. Will be doing more in the future.

I was frustrated that the price went up significantly when I got to the check out page. And I had to download 2 different apps (VoiceMap & Get Your Guide) AND create accounts with both and check my email for a code in order to access the audio tour. For Cork Highlights, the narrator was easy to understand and the navigation was pretty clear. I liked the automatic stop and start based on location. I would've enjoyed more variety, like sound effects or quotes read by different voice actors.

Hi Marissa -- This is a review of GetYourGuide more than VoiceMap. I do understand your frustration -- and share it -- but there are no hidden charges when you buy a VoiceMap tour directly. GetYourGuide processed your payment. The redemption process, with the instruction to get two apps, isn't controlled by us either. Glad you enjoyed the tour!

Wow... What a nightmare. The app will not start until you are at the exact place... For Augsburg it was a central station with trams going everywhere .. we had to cross tram lines three times in minutes. It then tells you the next stop without any clue how to get there. This is a terrible app - great idea but it sucks the life out of your device and is confusing to use (A back button? Forget it!). I want the 4.99 I spent on it back and more importantly, the few hours trying to get it to work:(.

We're sorry you found this tour frustrating Charles. Tours follow a route, and start at a specific point, so that we can give turn-by-turn directions and develop a narrative. Without this, they're dry and repetitive, plus they can't take you to surprising places. We've processed a refund. We've also asked the publisher to revise the starting point.
