About this app

The Rheinbahn App makes it really easy for you to get around by bus and train in the Düsseldorf, area, throughout the VRR
(Rhine-Ruhr public transport system) and NRW.

Advantages of the Rheinbahn App:
• DEUTSCHLANDTICKET: It can be bought easily as a digital ticket in the App which enables you to travel flexible and cheap throughout Germany by bus and train.
• DASHBOARD: When you open the App, your personal dashboard opens first with the main functions for travel around Düsseldorf by public transport (ÖPNV). You may customise the dashboard according to your needs, e.g. with an overview of the tickets you have bought and are valid, save your most important connections and lines in “Schnellauskunft” (Quick Information) or display the “Abfahrtsmonitor” (Departure Monitor).
• DIGITAL SUBSCRIPTION: You can manage your subscription digitally. You can also change any smart cards into a digital subscription with barcode.
• EEZY.NRW: If you only travel occasionally by public transport in the Düsseldorf area then choose the Check-In-/Check-Out-Tarif eezy.nrw. Simply check in with the App and check out again at the end of your journey. The fare is calculated automatically according to the linear kilometres travelled.
• TICKETS: In the Rheinbahn App you have access to the entire range of VRR tickets, VRS and NRW tickets and, of course, also the Deutschlandticket. You can also buy tickets for your bicycle or first-class tickets. We have made it even easier for you to buy your ticket and you can choose from following ways to pay: PayPal, credit card (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) and prepaid (not possible with eezy.nrw).
• MULTI-TRIP TICKETS: They are now clearly displayed and you can see at a glance how many journeys you have left.
• TIMETABLE INFORMATION FOR NRW: The timetable information system that thinks for itself: in addition to the set favourites and your current location, the stops or stations you frequently use are prioritised.
• TRAVEL INFO (VERKEHRSINFO): To help you to get around more easily, Travel Info shows you whether there are any current delays on our buses or trains. We help you plan your journey better.
• INDIVIDUAL QUICK INFORMATION („INDIVIDUELLE SCHNELLAUSKUNFT“): Simply drag and drop the icons for your start and destination favourites and the next connections will be displayed.
• DEPARTURE MONITOR (ABFAHRTSMONITOR): Here you can choose a stop or station and the next departures will be displayed. Thanks to the punctuality forecast, you know exactly when you have to leave.
• PUSH MESSAGES: You can set your favourite lines and times individually and will receive relevant notifications of delays directly to your smartphone. You’ll keep up-to-date and can switch to other bus or train lines so that you can get around more easily.

Ratings and reviews

This app let you install outside Germany. It used to take foreign credit card, too, but there was a fraud incident, so probably it wont work anymore, unfortunately. And the payment/cancellation wont work abroad either. (as of April 2025). Customer service takes call with not much waiting, and gives accurate information right away. Very comfortable. It would be perfect if one may buy a Deutschlandticket for someone else.

Unfortunately there's no better alternative. This app is (slightly) better than its predecessor, but that is not saying much. The two main issues I have: the journey planner / Abfahrtsmonitor information provided is not accurate, sometimes by a few minutes, other times the tram just does not come. Also the data usage is ridiculously high, today I checked twice the departure time of my bus and it swallowed 1.2GB data (in roaming).

It's fine for checking time tables, horrible for tickets. I keep getting logged out automatically meaning I can't show my ticket or quickly get access to buying when I'm getting to the train, missed several connections because I didn't get in before train/tram left, I don't want to board without a valid ticket. Yeah, I could make my life easier by having a weak password that is easy to type in also in cold weather but there isn't any point with a password if it's weak.

What’s new

New: Rheinlandtarif
Starting June 1, 2026, the Rheinlandtarif will replace the existing AVV and VRS fare structures.
VRS tickets will thus become Rheinlandtarif tickets.
The VRS-AnschlussTicket will no longer be available.
