About this app

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. The notes are searchable, can be copied, tagged and modified. The Android application supports markdown rendering.

The notes can be synchronised with your other devices via Dropbox, OneDrive, Nextcloud or WebDAV. Joplin is also available for Windows, macOS and Linux and all can synchronise with each others so your notes can be available on your mobile phone, computer, tablet, etc. Please see the official website for the list of available applications: https://joplinapp.org/

The desktop applications can be used to import notes from Evenote via .enex files, including the formatted content (which is converted to markdown), resources (images, attachments, etc.) and complete metadata (geolocation, updated time, created time, etc.). These imported notes can then be synchronised with the Android app.

As a writer who does a lot of research I needed a simple, fast, free note taking app that I could learn on the fly and which would handle large note files which were primarily text and images. Evernote and Notion had deep learning curves that wasted my time as I tried to sort out which features I needed and which were just overkill. Joplin seems to have just the right balance of power v. simplicity so that it can do everything I need to organize research without inhibiting workflow.

Joplin, I want to like it. Pros it's open source, desktop web clipper, markdown support, tons of sync options. Cons mobile version has NO clipper, the UI has always been a little off, the sync doesn't work reliably esp. when notes are encrypted, and I dislike how they removed the slide to open side menu. Yeah you can click, but that sucks

Amazing app, better than OneNote, Keep, Notion, Obsidian, etc. Replaces both note taking apps both large and for small items. Also can replace Todoist and other To Do apps although that does require a little bit of learning curve but doable if you want an all in one tool. Plus encryption, agnostic so you can choose where you want data stored, markdown so data can easily be exported if you choose another application. That is huge, anyone that has been locked in to bad product will appreciate.
