OpenVPN, it's a good thing that it exists. Ease of use of this app is high for tech savvy users. Would love to see an even more intuitive design for my non-techy family/friends/etc. I'd love to set it up for them and let them take it from there. Visual design can be improved slightly. For example the persistent notification icon is the only non-pure-white icon on my bar. Not that pretty to look at. (Designwise it'd be even more amazing if it were one of the right side icons, but you can't have it all.)
So far so good The VPN experience is so awesome. This client does just as expected. Had to switch to a home vpn after Niantic banned the VPN I was paying for, and I couldn't be happier. Able to access my home network media using Plex, shared folders, as well as all the other benefits using someone else's restricted wifi... can use ports that would otherwise be blocked, and people cannot see network packets in the clear.
mbedTLS needs to be updated from 1.13.16 to 2+ to support ecc certificates. Setup entire architecture and infrastructure only to find out that I have to redo every cert in the organization because of vpn for mobile phones... Love Openvpn but tls encryption is the basis of what protects the connection. You really need to make sure that mbedTLS stays up to date. DNS push is also broken.
Actually 3.5 Stars I would give it more stars, but the app keeps disconnecting from my VPN. It states that it will stay connected during the time the phone is on standby but it keeps disconnecting. Fix this issue for more stars. I know its not the VPN, I have no issues on my tablet, PC, or laptop using the VPN client from the service I pay for. This one has some issues.
Used to work well, now frequently disconnects Completely unreliable. If you use this app be prepared to keep an eye on the icon in the status bar. If it disappears (and it does frequently now) you will not be protected by your VPN. I will be looking for an alternative since this app is no longer reliable.
Connects to VPN servers quickly and securely. Very easy to use. OPEN VPN Connect does however lack a kill-switch, which prevents Internet data leakage when the connection drops. That said I've yet to find a VPN app that does have a kill switch. Maybe it's not feasible on Android?
