Building for inclusivity

#WeArePlay celebrates the people who build apps and games for Play users worldwide. And every July, Disability Pride Month commemorates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This landmark legislation helps millions of people enjoy more inclusive spaces, and helps end the stigma of disability. Anshul Agarwal, Meet Singhal, and Harsh Tyagi first met while working at a startup, where they became friends and eventually shared an apartment. Agarwal and Tyagi then learned about Singhal’s struggles with stuttering and how he taught himself speech therapy exercises. This inspired them to create Stamurai, which has since helped thousands of people worldwide. What’s next? More languages and exercises for other speech disorders.

Maxence Henneron and Oxana Ivanchenko struggled to keep their house clean while they were both working from home. To help manage the chores, they created Sweepy – a smart home cleaning app that assigns household tasks to each person. They’re really proud of how many people with autism and ADHD say Sweepy helps them manage their homes. And now, Henneron and Ivanchenko are developing a feature for points and rewards to encourage children to get more involved in housework.

Pramit Bhargava was climbing the corporate ladder when prescribed medication that damaged his retina caused total vision loss. He required help from friends and family to complete daily tasks. While a friend was booking a driver for Bhargava, he had the idea to create a virtual assistant through voice-activated commands. And so he created Louie – named after the creator of Braille – for people with visual impairments to operate apps using their voice. With recent updates like reading text in images, the Louie team is excited to add even more app integrations and languages.
