La necrobiosi lipoidica (NL) è una malattia granulomatosa con degenerazione del collagene che può manifestarsi in associazione al diabete o in soggetti apparentemente sani. La NL si manifesta soprattutto in età adulta, sebbene siano stati descritti casi in età giovanile e infantile. Circa l’80% dei pazienti sono di sesso femminile; questa prevalenza di genere sembra più alta nei pazienti non-diabetici. La causa della NL è sconosciuta. Numerosi studi hanno valutato la correlazione tra NL e diabete, ma questa associazione non è ancora chiara.
