Jay Porter, the newest employee at NorthEastern Insurance in New Hampshire, is investigating a motor vehicle accident claim when he learns the teenager behind the wheel was arrested for minor drug possession and sentenced to a hardcore behavioral modification center.

Joe Clifford draws upon his own past experiences as a homeless junkie to bridge social gaps and to be a force for change. Holding an MFA degree from Florida International University, Clifford is the author of five books, including his autobiographical novel Junkie Love and the Anthony Award-nominated Lamentation, the first Jay Porter novel, followed by December Boys. Joe lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
