Maas has a style that pulls the reader in. The plot itself (up to this point) has been predictable, but enjoyably so. The characters are well made, the world is perfect, and the story has so much flavor. Romance isn't necessarily the main component; Maas closely resembles authors like Tolkien and George R.R. Martin. Her books are not just kin to epics-- they are epics, with flawless details and enchantment.

Great book, exceptional storytelling. Only problem I had was how many times Maas used "hissed" or "snarled" as a literary element. Its just over the top. Also, there's just too much filler in Queen of Shadows. Just get to the point. Sometimes Maas isn't the best at naming either. The Kingdom of Meah. What is that? Its a kingdom that doesn't believe in itself. Also, Adarlan? She could've done better. Other than the constant overuse of the "snarl" literary element and really subpar naming Mass is exceptional for her engaging descriptions of action sequences. The horror and romance she weaves throughout the series is excellent in every way. I snarled in satisfaction when i completed this review.

I very much enjoyed the earlier books of this series. I enjoy reading young adult/juvenile fiction because I love a great story without the sex and bad language in adult fiction. The descriptive sex is completely unnecessary; the story would be excellent without it.
