Inventory control is vitally important to almost any type of industry, whether product or service-oriented. Investments in raw materials, spare parts, work-in-progress and finished products are all critical costs of operations which if not controlled can lead to high capital costs, high operating costs, and decreased production efficiency. This book focuses on the problems of materials control in small-scale manufactur-ing industries. It explains how to optimize the available resources with a view to reducing material costs and achieving improved capital turnover. It also analyzes a few selected industries and critically reviews their performance in the area of inventory control. D. CHANDRA BOSE, PhD, is Principal, Sree Narayana College (University of Kerala), Chengannur, Kerala. He has more than three decades of academic experience. He has authored several books in the field of management and administration, including four books for PHI Learning. His research areas include marketing, public administration, and finance and accounting.
