A vampire courtesan is now a madam. She hares her story, having been cast out by her father, she was sild as property for over 200 years Her crime was giving her heart and her body to a beau she chose, instead of the vampire her family chose for her The vampire she was cast out over finds her, a critical fool, who at first fails to comprehend what choices Catherine had to make to survive and later thrive A different kind of slavery and rebellion I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story brings us up to date on Catherine and Benedict, separated 500 years ago when their secret relationship was discovered. As always happens, the woman, Catherine was shunned by society, dumped out on her own and left to survive or not with no one helping or caring about her. Catherine is strong and not only survived but lifted herself up to become a very successful Madam in The City of Blood. She also helps people escape the city through the “underground railroad”, so she is actually very heroic as well risking herself for others. Benedict was allegedly searching all this time for Catherine. They meet again as Benedict enters the Black Fan (Catherine’s brothel). Benedict does have some attitude adjustment to make since his treatment way back then was not anything like what Catherine endured. As expected with this author, the book was well-written and intriguing. The characters were strong and resilient. Will Benedict be able to accept the life Catherine had to turn to for her own survival? Will he understand why she had to do what she did? And if and when he is ready to acknowledge his love for her, will she forgive and love him back?

Catherine and Benedict’s is only the beginning. I do not read a great many vampire tales but this is a Laura Greenwood book so I just had to pick up the arc. I do have a member in my household that does devour these kinds of stories so I let them read it also. What we both found was that this was an outstanding book Catherine and Benedict’s second chance love story was interesting. Catherine's career choice as a lady of the night turned madam set the stage right off the bat. I loved the twists and turns in this gem and as usual, it is well-written. Ms. Greenwood is a brilliant writer. I highly recommend I hope you check the book out. I did receive a free copy of this story and voluntarily chose to review it.
