Om denne e-boken

The 1st edition of the book “Light-Emitting Diodes” was published in 2003. The 2nd edition was published in 2006. The current 3rd edition of the book, a substantial expansion of the second edition, has 37 Chapters and includes a thorough discussion of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs), phosphor materials used in white LEDs, an expanded discussion of the various efficiencies encountered in the context of LEDs, and packaging materials and device technology. The background of light, color science, and human vision is provided as well. In the current edition, the fully colored illustrations are highly beneficial given the prominent role of light and color in the field of LEDs. The book is intended to be a comprehensive discussion of LEDs, particularly the physics, chemistry, and engineering associated with LEDs. It is published in electronic format in order to make the book affordable and easily accessible to a wide readership.

Om forfatteren

E. Fred Schubert received his MS degree in Electrical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) with honors from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1981, and his Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) with honors in 1986, also in Electrical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. From 1981 to 1985 he worked on compound semiconductor crystal growth at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, as a doctoral student. In 1985, he joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ as a Postdoctoral Fellow. From 1988 to 1995, he was Principal Investigator in the Research Division of AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ. In 1995, he joined Boston University and was appointed tenured Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Affiliated Member of the Photonics Center. At Boston University, he was responsible for GaN materials characterization and the fabrication and testing of compound semiconductor devices, in particular GaN-based devices. In 2002, he joined the faculty of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he held various positions including Professor of Electrical Engineering, Professor of Applied Physics, Constellation Chair in Future Chips, Head of the Future Chips Constellation, and Director of the Engineering Research Center in Smart Lighting that was funded by the US National Science Foundation at a volume of $40 million over 10 years.
