In Finland, all the children are routinely examined by a paediatrician before being discharged from the maternity hospital. At a Child Health Clinic a doctor re-examines all children at 6–8 weeks, 4 months, 8 months, 18 months and 5 years, and whenever possible at 3 years. These examinations are described in this article.
