She has an adoptive father who taught her how to defend herself. Lucas was betrayed by the girl who he loved and who he thought he would marry. He is a born protector. His family the Harts are everything for him. Lucas embraces Maddie's strengths and encourages her to see the wonderful qualities she has. She is a badass. I really love how he treats her. Maddie awakens feelings in Lucas in which he has never experience. She has a great group of friends that are always there for her. Can they over come their past to create a future?
