Im Wettbewerb der Rundfunk- und Fernsehanstalten hat das Bundesverfassungsgericht mit seinem Urteil zur Gebührenfinanzierung des öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkangebots die Stellung von ARD und ZDF gestärkt. Die Länder können demnach entgangene Gebühreneinnahmen in Höhe von 440 Millionen Euro nachfordern - zudem wurde die "Bestands- und Entwicklungsgarantie" bestätigt. Heftig kritisiert wird, dass ARD und ZDF die Gebühreneinnahmen auch dazu nutzen, um im Bereich der digitalen Medien zu expandieren.
