《本草崇原》三卷，約始撰于康熙十三年（1674），著有張志聰歿而書未成，後由弟子高世栻續成。
此書摘錄《本草綱目》中本經藥233味（另有附品56種），作『祟原』之論。藥分上中下三品，從藥物性味、生成、陰陽五行屬性、形色等人手，結合主治疾病之機理，闡明功效，崇本求原，對徐大椿、陳修園等醫家影響頗大。
《本草崇原》是一部注釋《神農本草經》的藥學專著，作者張志聰在書中創立了五運六氣之原、明陰陽消長之理的藥氣理論，闡明藥性，解釋詳備，尤其重視格物用藥原則。因此，運氣的觀點是本書的最大特點，也是張氏作此書的最大成就。當之無愧為《本經》以來第一位窺其門徑、登堂入室者。
五運六氣、陰陽消長為基礎的藥氣理論是張氏所倡導的，而氣化、陰陽正是藥物形色氣味的總結，是治病用藥的關鍵，是《本經》核心，也是《本草經典論著十人書》所著重體現和闡釋的。（博客來）
