DISCOVER DETAILS OF OUR READING PROGRAM

1️⃣ LEARNING LETTERS
Your child will develop a strong foundation in letter recognition, letter-sound knowledge, and other pre-reading skills. You will guide them as they practice writing letters, develop phonemic awareness, and deepen their understanding of letter sounds through interactive games.

2️⃣ BLENDING LETTERS
In this phase, your kid will use their knowledge of letter-sounds to begin blending letters together to read words. Your child will become adept at using our sound sliders to support them in decoding words with short vowel sounds and both slow & fast consonants.

3️⃣ READING BOOKS
Once your child has a foundation in word-blending skills, it’s time to read books! Together you will read fun and engaging stories, reveal hidden pictures, and check for understanding by answering comprehension questions.

4️⃣ ADVANCED DECODING
In this phase, your kid will learn about long vowel sounds, digraphs, and irregular sight words, as well as how to approach common types of punctuation.

5️⃣ READING FLUENCY
In this final phase of reading development, your child will learn to read smoothly and accurately by expanding their sight word knowledge, vocabulary, and exposure to more complex text.

Needs a setting where you have the ability to skip the book reading modules. Overall a great learning tool, but my 3 year old cannot sit still long enough to do the story portion and frankly I don't feel he is ready for it. I would use the app more frequently, if I could do a quick 5 to 10 minute lesson on him just practicing letters and sight words. The "book" portion is 8 pages long. it's too much. Perhaps the books can be fewer pages, optional, or a "boss" every few levels.

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful feedback! We understand wanting shorter or optional book sections and will pass your idea to our team. We want lessons to fit your child’s pace. If you need anything or have more suggestions, please reach us at support@reading.com.

This app definitely has some positives. My 6 year old was behind in reading and I wanted something supplemental. It initially tests you in so you start at the appropriate lesson. Once you get past CVC words this does not teach phonics rules which was frustrating for me. I now use the good and the beautiful free online curriculum (which teaches phonics) and the blend works well. My son always want to do a lesson everyday in addition to our other reading curriculum. He thinks it is fun.

Do not buy a year subscription until you've actually tried the program. there are no refunds, and in my case, I wasted money rather than saving it. Not only are there not even enough lessons to last a full year, but it's also fundamentally flawed because it doesn't actually teach your kids to read but utilizes a lot of sight words to make kids feel like they are reading. It's false advertisement to call them phonics lessons since there is a heavy emphasis on sight words.
