If you can think of it, Tasker can probably do it for you!
Note: root is NOT (I repeat NOT) required for majority of the functions. However, a few of the actions (like the Kill App and Mobile Data action on some devices) require root. This is because of Android security policies that developers cannot work around.

If you set it up to do so, Tasker can automatically backup your files to a specific folder on the device, SD card, USB key or even Google Drive! This is useful if you want to keep your files safe even if you lose your phone.

Note 1: Tasker uses the BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission in order to provide the System Lock functionality

Ratings and reviews

A great app to automate things you need your phone for or to do. Would absolutely recommend for more technical people using their smartphones on a daily basis. The app is actively updated and the developer is really invested and will try to help if you run into any problems. It is sad though that Android keeps making things less accessible.

Tasker is one of the most powerful apps for automating tasks on your smartphone, but it's far from the easiest to get to grips with. It takes some learning. Some examples of what it can do: it can start playing podcasts when your bluetooth headphones connects, it can send automatic whatsapp or sms messages, it can reply to a "where are you?" text with your GPS location, it can turn on your smart lights at sunset, it can pause background music playback when a particular app is open (and resume it afterwards), and so on and so on, automatically open an app at a certain time, or turn down volume at a particular time, it can read out texts and caller ID, flip down phone to set to DND, It can literally do anything you think I can't live without it. There are some sites where you can download and import profiles to automate tasks, so that you don't have to make it yourself (including Tasknet and Reddit). However, you need ROOT to enjoy it to the fullest.

I love Tasker! It has completely simplified my way of using my phone by not having to think about doing certain tasks at certain locations etc. e.g. starting apps like spotify when my car radio connects to bluetooth or enabling/disabling Wifi when I arrive and leave at home and work! 5 starts + extra stars for the developer's support! I had a question, to which they answered to me within a couple of hours and with an immediate solution!
