About this app

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) app from U.S. Customs and Border Protection allows Nationals of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries to apply and pay for a travel authorization without a visa. The ESTA app is a mobile version of the ESTA application process and information that can also be found on the ESTA website at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.

The ESTA app currently has two features available: Apply for New Individual Application and Search for Existing Application.
• The “GET STARTED” feature allows travelers to create a new ESTA application, pay for the ESTA and submit the application to be processed by the system to determine if they are eligible to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program without a visa. The system will provide the traveler with an automated response.
• The “FIND IT” feature allows travelers to check the status of their existing ESTA application..
CBP recommends that you apply for ESTA at the time you book your travel, but no less than 72 hours prior to boarding.

The application doesn't work. After scanning the first page of my passport, it shows me how my passport will be read on the next screen but i can't scroll down on the page to click on next to go to the next page. Update: i managed to to scan passport and now it doesn't want to go the next sreen and there is no option for me to click on next. Update: how can you expect a 1-2 year old to not make any movements and keep facing the camera so that your app can automatically capture the photos?

So hard to correctly distinguish between a 'zero' and the letter 'O' Also the letters L and a capital I (for India) . so when I tried to type the extremely long log in number it didn't work. several times. done it now. Should really say the information needed before we start to fill in so we can have all those details written down (rather than saved on our phones) so it could be done in one go .

Unable to proceed past the screen after I placed my phone on the passport to read the RFID information. The traveller information screen comes up with all my details on it, but there is no bottom to confirm and proceed. Pressing the back button just puts you in a loop of having to scan the RFID again and not being able to move forward. I can't do the application online, as every time I try it forces me to either open or download the app. Please help!!
