About this app

Element Classic is the previous-generation of Element mobile app. Friends, family and communities should use the free and open source Element X app which is faster, easier to use, and more powerful. New users of public sector organisations, enterprises and professional teams users should use the Element Pro app that is built for work and organisations. Element Classic is available at least until the end of 2025 and will receive critical security updates but no further enhancements or new features.

The application requires the android.permission.REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission to enable the installation of applications received as attachments, ensuring seamless and convenient access to new software within the app.

The application requires the USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT permission to ensure our users can effectively receive call notifications even when their devices are locked.

I've been using it for a few years on my hosted setup. this is really buggy, failed to send messages due to network issues?it will have a permanent bar that says sending failed and you can't delete the message that it failed to send. voice and video calls would often get stuck on connecting. if it connects, it gets jittery sometimes. I tried investigating if it's a server issue but the servers seem to work well. want to look at photos you've sent via other devices? nope

I don't have any issue with the messaging side of this app as such, but things only get fixed when people review what's wrong. The reauthenticate message doesn't do anything, so clearly there's a bug there that needs fixed. Also when I am offline and send messages people don't get it. This means if I'm out of range or briefly offline messages don't go through. I use lots of other messaging apps and this doesn't happen with those. If you send a message offline, when you go online it gets sent.

I was using it but i received a message that I have to verify my account and i don't know what that means but the message said that i will not be able to use the app anymore in a few weeks. This sucks to be honest, I feel compelled to uninstall it, weird stuff.
